1837 Marriage
« on: Saturday 23 June 07 15:17 BST (UK) »
Hello ,
I would appreciate any ideas on way forward for looking at a December 1837 Londonderry  marriage between John Crossan and Margaret Crossan {nee Young}. They were Catholics. Would this mean parish records ?
Regards
Alan

Hello Mary,
Thanks for reply and looking for me. I live in Coventry , England, so not very near. I would ideally like to know where they were living at time of marriage if possible .
Thanks again
Alan

H Alan

I have just joined the club. Try ifhs.brsgenealogy.com most of the counties in Ireland are online now, my great grandfather John Crossan was born in Derry in1855 also married to a Margaret but maiden name McLaughlin.  I hope the web- site is of help,  the censuses are also available online.

Regards
Phyllis

The records for St Columba's, Long Tower are on the EmeraldAncestors database.  This is the only John Crossan listed (and will save you the pretty expensive costs on the IFHF website)

Date of Marriage   18 Feb 1841
Groom Name   John CROSSAN
Bride Name   Eliza BURRIDGE
Church   Long Tower (St Coulmba's) Roman Catholic Church
Parish   Templemore
Civil District   Londonderry
County   Londonderry

Hello ,
Thanks for replies . The print outs I have are for a birth of a Sarah Jane Crossan1/1/1865 daughter of John and Margaret Crossan { nee Young } who wed in December 1837 Londonderry . I then have a death of Margaret Crossan { nee Young } 15/1/1885 aged 71 widow of John Crossan. She was the daughter of Joseph Young { soldier deceased  and Mary Young { nee Mc Grant ? }
Sarah's birth and Margarets death are in Greenock , Scotland .
Given Margarets age I find it strange that if Sarah was born 1865 as on print out she would have been 51 but possible I suppose ?
Her death was witnessed by a Mary Ann Smith  daughter .
I hope this helps a bit
Regards
Alan
