OK Here's who is living at Newfield in 1871!

John McLean, head, unmarried, aged 64, Farmer of 50 acres, Born Boharm
Helen McLean,sister,unmarried,aged 49, Dom Servant,Born Boharm
Margaret McLean, sister, unmarried, aged 45,General Servant, Born Boharm
Isabella Munro,niece,unmarried,aged26, Dom Servant,Born Boharm
Jessie Jack, niece, aged 15, scholar, Born Boharm
John Shand,nephew,unmarried,aged18, Ag Lab, Born Boharm.

No Isabella aged 85 to be found. Guess she has popped her clogs.

Margaret McLean is still here, unmarried!!!

I guess the marriage of Margaret McLean and James Shand in Urquhart and their kids born in Rothes and Edinkillie are not oors!!!

Best wishes
Jean

I have just noticed this thread and would just like to add that Charles McLean b.1777 younger brother of Lewis was my 3xGGF. I also have their parents as John McLean & Helen Stewart but can't find parents of John. Do you have any information on them?

Tentatively I have Helen's parents as George Stewart (b.1653?) & Elspat McKimmie (1701) from Rothes. There is only the one George on SP but it puts him at 68 when he married Elspat who was 24 at the time of the marriage; his parents were James Stewart & Elspet Duncane c.1630.

Elspet McKimmie's parents were George McKimmie & Marjorie Grant c.1675.

I can give you my tree down from Charles if you are interested.

Regards,

Alastair

Much to my surprise I see this thread is my family.  :o

Margaret McLean born Boharm 1820 is my 2 x gt grandmother.  Margaret had 3 children, Alexander Dow, Isabella Munro and Jessie Jack.  Jessie Jack is my great grandmother.  I have much more information on this family and would be happy to share information.

I am particularly interested in finding where these researchers fit into the family equation.

If anyone has access to the 1841 - 1871 census

You have access to it yourself in transcription at http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
