Marriage bonds of Bedwelty, Tredegar
« on: Monday 25 June 07 13:48 BST (UK) »
Please does anyone have access to marriage bonds in Monmouthshire.

The date would be 1799 or 1800 when Ann Moss c 1782 married Richard Jenkins c 1776 on the 21st July 1800 at Bedwelty Church.

There is a marriage bond for their daughter Frances dated 1820 before she married John Owen so I assume that was the norm for my family.

with thanks
Diana

Have you tried the National Library of Wales? You can search online by name, and order copies if you find something. I found a marriage bond for a couple in the Pontypool area.

Anne
Halifax/Huddersfield area West Yorkshire
Monmouthshire, Gloucestershire, Berkshire and nearby areas.
Bilcliffe one name study all areas.

Thank you Osprey - got it now!!    I do have the marriage certificate but did wonder about a bond - the NLW does not have it so I do not think there is one.

thank you again
Diana

Dear Marmaduke 123,

thank you I have now tried the NLW and there wasn't one - they were married by banns - sorry to have troubled you.   My apologies for the late reply but for some reason roots chat is not telling me of replies to my requests.    I have clicked on 'notify'!!

thanks again
Diana

Sorry I can't help you with you question but am wondering if we have a connection with the Jenkins family (and the Marsden family).

My line is as follows

Mary Jenkins (Maiden name unknown) b abt 1797 Breconshire, husband's name unknown.

A Daughter:  Sarah Jenkins b abt 1826 Panteague, marr Jacob Jones abt 1845, she died abt 1901.  (Mary also had a son David b abt 1830)

Sarah & Jacob Jones Children: 7 including;
Eleanor Marsden Jones, b 1866 Usk, d USA 1914, marr Edward Harris in Abersychan 1891

Eleanor Marden Jones and Edward Harris children:
Frances Thirza Ruth Harris  (my grandmother)

The areas I know these folks were connected with are:
Jones (Trevethin, Panteague, Usk)
Harris:  Abertillery, Crickhowel (Brecon)
The senior Harris and Jones family are buried in Ebenezer Baptist Church yard, Pontnewydd near Pontypool (they were related to the pastor)

Several of their marriage and birth records were found in Bedwelty.

Do you think there is a connection?  Could your Richard Jenkins, Jr and Mary Anne Marsden be my Mary Jenkins?  Do you know their children's names?

Thank you,
Ruth Thirza
