Don't forget that most of this is pure speculation.

I'm confident about the two Thomas's in Stanbridge in 1841/51. The younger one was born in Tingewick which is 20 miles away, but it's conjecture that William was Thomas's brother. But it would be an amazing coincidence that two unrelated Buckingham families pitched up in Stanbridge, a two men and a dog parish, at roughly the same time!

You need to view both Stanbridge and Tingewick PRs at your nearest LDS Family History Centre to try to verify the theory

I will look at the Stanbridge PRs up to 1812 at Bedford library on Saturday morning. For the Tingewick PRs, I've just noticed that these are available at the Milton Keynes library. Open 'till 8pm tomorrow evening.

.. or Bucks FHS offer a postal search service,,
http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/index.php?option=com_parish&task=display&rec=181&Itemid=120

or better still look on this website .. there's a few Buckinghams

Thanks John, those sites are great.
And thanks for any look ups, it is hard to turn my vision away from Bedfordshire, you really do not know where your relatives come from when you start out.
The only thing I can give you for sure is that William Buckingham is the father on the Marriage certificate that I have for  Henry Buckingham and Rebecca Burrige. in 1841 Stanbridge.
If you need anything more just let me know.
Thanks again.

Hello Gail,   My eyes are tired I 've just been peering at microfilm images of the Tingewick PR entries at MK library.  Was paper so expensive in those days that they had to write so small, as if to fit as many names as they could on a page.

Thomas Buckingham married Martha ? Smith or  ? Finch but now I beleve it to be KINCH on 9th July 1766 at Tingewick. He signed his name but she made her mark. Witnesses Hannah Hickman & Isaac Jones. On first sight I thought it was Smith, looked at it from different angles, could be Finch ?. The previous marriage on 2nd April 1766 of Thomas Allen to Mary ? had the same looking surname, looked like Finch. Then I looked at the 'Bucks Posse Comitatus' 1798 similar to the muster lists.  In Tingewick it lists Thomas Buckingham & T B jnr, carpenters, plus a John Buckingham labourer. On same list is John Kinch, that sort of clinched it for me.......

Thank you so much John, you have gone beyond what you needed to do.
This is so great.

I guess that what I have to do is find a definite connection with this William being Henry's parent.

What is my next step in this.
Getting Henry's birth certificate, what will that prove??

I am talking to myself here.

Thanks again for all you have done.

As I mentioned in my original reply, Henry was born before 1837 so there is no birth certificate. Just a baptism entry in a parish register, on the assumption that he was baptised.

So going through Stanbridge parish register is your next step - his baptism may have been missed when the PR was transcribed for the IGI, but I doubt it. But any other detail on the 1801 baptism might provide a clue.

Check with BLARS to see if they hold a will for William in which he might have named his children.

But if you can't find a baptism for Henry you're down to the balance of probabilities

David
