LDS Family History Centre film numbers query
« on: Thursday 28 June 07 04:43 BST (UK) »
I don't know if I'm stupid or doing something wrong...

I'm trying to work out which films to order from the LDS catalogue, and I'm very confused.

I'd really appreciate it someone would be kind enough to tell me which numbers I'll need to order the appropriate films for the following:

- a birth in about 1863, (+/- 1 year) in New Ross, Wexford
- a birth in about 1864 (+/- 1 year) in Wexford, Wexford.
(both RC - and of course I don't know how long after the births the baptisms may have taken place)

Hope someone can help.

Many thanks.

Ruskie,

You may have found out by now but here goes...

There are no birth indexes for 1863 because civil registration only began in 1864. The film number and title for 1864 is:

1864 Index of births  FHL BRITISH Film 101041.

1865 Index of births is FHL British Film 101042.

I've looked at these myself. The births are arranged alphabetically and not by county so it helps if you're looking for an uncommon name! Religious denomination is unimportant.

It is only an index, and will show the surname, christian names, place of registration, quarter, volume, and page. If you want any more film numbers have a look in the Family History Library Catalog for quarterly returns of births, marriages and deaths.

Good luck.

Thank you very much Leofric. No I hadn't yet found out the appropriate film numbers.

I keep returning to this family, then putting them back into the "too hard" basket.

Now I'm keen to try again! Many thanks!
