Marriage LANGRIDGE, Joseph and Binnie Completed
« on: Thursday 28 June 07 09:40 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am trying to trace the marriage of Joseph and Binni/e nee PINNER.

I only have information on their son Edward, born 1820/25 Brighton.
He was sentenced to transportation to Western Australia at the Maidstone
Assizes in March 1850.  Edward appears to have a wife (Susan/nah) and
daughter in the Kent area at that time.

Thanks,

Rozzy

Hmmm now I'm not so sure because they married by Licence and there is the Licence entry

21 October 1796 Archdeaconry of Lewes marriage licence
Joseph Langridge, bach, 21 Labourer of Fletching
Albina Pinion, spinster, 20 wc of Eliz Pinion, w of Laughton

Thomas Wallis Yeoman of Laughton

That would make her 44 when Edward was born in 1820!

Thanks Kerry and Valda, that's a wonderful amount of info!

I'm sorry I can't contribute much, I only had Edward's approx birth,
(he died 10/4/1898 'aged 78' Fremantle WA). His convict records show
his birth date as 1825.  The names of his parents were on his death info.

I don't know of any other family names.  'Binnie Pinner' is unusual,
and certainly does fit the 'Albina Pinnion'. (Family rumour had her as French.)

She is getting a bit old by 1820 to  be his mother...  could he have been
the first child of Joseph and Phil... (illegitimate, previous wife recorded).

Or, did Albina die around the time of Edward's birth?....

Sorry I've got more questions, more sorry that I don't have any answers!!

Regards,

Rozzy

Since the first child for Joseph and Philadelphia was baptised in Fletching on 4th November 1827 that would cast some doubt on this being the same Joseph Langridge who married Albina, as her death would have occurred after that child's conception circa February 1827). No Langridge baptisms in Fletching pre 1827 with a father called Joseph (though plenty of Langridge baptisms).

Philadelphia appears to have had an illegitimate child Caroline in Mayfield baptised 21st March 1824.

Bastardy - ref. PAR422/34
Maintenance orders
FILE - Maintenance order - ref.  PAR422/34/2/105  - date: 7 May 1824. William Hall of Mayfield, labourer, reputed father of an illegitimate daughter of Philadelphia Bones (born 23 Feb 1824)

Only one baptism in Fletching for a Joseph Langridge.

LANGRIDGE, Joseph
Christening Date:26 Apr 1773   Fletching, Sussex
Father:John LANGRIDGE
Mother:Mary

You would have to check the actual details of Joseph's marriage to Philadelphia in Mayfield in 1827 to see whether he was a widower when he married.

Hi Valda and Kerry

Albina died 1827 aged 47 .... then she was around 40 in 1820 .... then
could be Edward's mother ..... age on her marriage info incorrect (16?).

Joseph might already have ..um..taken up with Phil. as she was
preg. when Albina died and they married at the first opportunity.
Certainly didn't waste any time!!;D  LOL  Maybe she'd been sick for some
time (why am I making excuses for him:-/), and no-one had got around
to baptizing Edward. (Joseph was a bit busy).

Valda, how do I go about checking the actual details of the marriage
of Joseph and Phil please?

thanks

Rozzy
