Hi Ruth

your welcome
Others may be able to provide some more sites. I'm not researching England myself but I figured if I could provide you with one site at least to help you on your way till the experts arrive you'll at least be able to make a start.

Good hunting and hope you find some answers

Ruth,

Do you know which state in Australia your people arrived? Have you got their names and approximate dates of arrival?

I'm in Qld and there are searchable immigration records at our State Archives -  cards, books, films (some are online)

Hi Ruth,
The Rootschat board devoted to Australian Immigrants  has a section at the top which give all kinds of resources including shipping.
the board is inhabited by a very active group Rootschatters who will love to give whatever help they can.
To find the board go to the Rootschat index and scroll down to the box marked Emigrants.  Then look for 'Emigrants to Australia' and click on.
If you are interested, you could post your message there again,
Remember to give every possible detail you have if you would like some help onyour  ancestor.

If you're looking for emigration from UK 1890 to 1929, then try www.ancestorsonboard.com -- this is good for all long-haul destinations worldwide, including Australia.

If you're looking for records after 1930, then they'll appear on www.ancestorsonboard.com later this year.

If you're looking for records before 1890, then you may have difficulty, as theses are incomplete and unindexed. TNA at Kew has the bulk of these.
