If you go to the Ancestory free index you will find that there are at least a dozen Grays born in Oxfordshire nearly every year since 1837 and that doesn't include the variant of "Grey" which regularly occurs in my ancestry.  Recently it is fifty a year.  If you list all these your will probably have found your brother's in law relatives.

Seriously though, I think a bit more detail might help.

Hi DJ

All I have at the moment is -
Frederick Ellis Gray b. abt. Abt. 30 July 1911 Wycombe. m. Ivy Constance May Coulson abt. 1937 Brighton. Someone did a search for me and discovered - mother's mn = Montague.

I have just sent off for his birth certificate which will take some time to be processed & returned.

Regards

Clive

Frederick Ellis Gray b. 30 Jul 1911 Wycombe. m. (Ivy) Constance May Coulson 08 May 1937 Brighton.

I have found his Father! - Also Frederick Ellis Gray b. Abt. 1885 Wycombe, Buckinghamshire m.  Mar 1907 Agnes Alice Montague.

Now for the Interesting bit!

On the Census - his 'father' is listed as William E Ellis b. Abt 1854 and Mother is Mary Gray b. Abt 1855
The 1891 Census shows Frederick Gray Adopted son age 6
The 1901 Census shows Frederick Ellis Son age 16
Yet on Frederick's Marriage certificate he is Frederick Ellis Gray - It is definitely the correct certificate because William's Brother is shown as a witness on the certificate. William's name, however, is not shown as the father - the entry is blank.

I await William's marriage certificate and Frederick's birth certificate with great interest.

Any comments?
