1970 Springvale Cremation

I have an ancestor, William Edward Corris Rowlands, who was cremated on 10 August 1970 at Springvale Crematorium. I am stuck here in Tassie & I was wondering if SKS could take some photo's of his cremation site as the Crematorium want to charge me $55 to take a photo & post it to me.

I'm in no hurry & if anyone was going that way sometime, I'll provide my email & am willing to reimburse. His cremation is located in Brind - Wall BC, Niche 130.

Hello  there$55.00 is outrageous!  I thought $25.00 from Perth was wicked but that's gobsmacking.

You appreciate that they would have "overheads" no pun intended but  funerals never come cheaply in the first place.

Maybe they have got to pay for their website update that we are all still waiting on!

Thats probably half of an airfare when they come on special!!!(one way that is)

Hi Mike

Gosh $55 is a bit pricey.  There is a website for people who offer to do random acts of genealogical kindness.  I think they only ask to be reimbursed to actual costs - like fuel. The arrangement is between you and the volunteer. I will see if I can find the url for you.   I have used them on a couple of occasions.

I agree re: $55. That was supposedly for taking the photo, developing it (haven't they heard of digital? LOL. & for postiong it to me. Haven't they heard of email?) Oh well..If you don't laugh...you'll cry or head butt the screen 

A lot of cemeteries have emailed photo's to me free of charge but not this one. Oh well...it's off to RAOGK!

Good news Chatters!

I received an email back from Springvale, saying that the daughter signed the Father's cremation ceremony under the surname "Slade," not Rowlands, whick obviously means she got married. I looked under Whitepages in Vic & there's heaps of Slades but no E Slades or something & E Slade. While I'm keen to make contact with her, I'm not gonna ring 100 Slades!

Just thought I'd update this board. I've got a lady from RAOGK going to the state library next week for me.

meant to add there are a couple Of Edith Slade's on the Ryerson index

and a search of the NAA reveals several slades with their nok as Edith Slade

what year was she born,  It is possible she lived/lives interstate and come home to arrange dad's funeral.
