Hi Meg

In Lewes it is St Thomas a Cliffe (after Thomas Beckett who was vicar there before being murdered at Canterbury)

The Countess of Huntingdon as far as I know refers to Brighton - I do not know of a church with that name in Lewes.

Chris, Welcome home from holidays.  A destination that I must say I do envy and hope that you had a lovely time!
Strange about that entry on the IGI in 1824 noting "Old Chapel In The Cliff-Countess Of Huntingdons, Lewes, Sussex, England", noting that it has been extracted locally from records.  That's the only entry for that batch, so it would seem that it was an error in transcription somehow.
Thanks for responding, and great to have you back.  meg

Hi Meg

Since posting this message over 1 year ago, I have since learnt that Countess of Huntingdon Chapel WAS part of St Thomas in the Cliff, Lewes.

It ceased to exist about 1804/5 and the registers were not used for two years, but then the Jirah Chapel commenced with those same registers.

So it looks as though Countess of Huntingdon Chapel became the Jirah Chapel in Lewes
