morrisons and beatties in langholm

hi can anyone help me

we have just found out that my husbands line  the morrisons come from langholm
we have a alexandra morrison married to a janet irvine  we only have that its in langholm
they had a sone james morrison who married mary beattie
we have info that they had the following children william ,janet,
elizabeth,agnes, another agnes we think,robert,john,jane,charles,nancey,thomas renwick,and mary we think she died at 27 eskdaill st
we know the faimly lived on henry street .but being in england makes it hard to see the census
im asking for any help to tell me where they were  any were born and christened ,were any were   married and were any are buried  because we thought langholm only had one  graveyard but we  were are wrong

we are coming upto langholm on 21 july to meet some new relations we have found by doing are family tree but we would also like to see where they  they were finally laid to rest so we can tell the family back home in manchester england

1841 census- ewes factory, langholm

james- aged 40-factory overlooker
mary-age 35
james-age 16-wollen worker
nancy-age 15-wollen worker
elizabeth-age 13-wollen worker
john-age 11
william-age 9
charles- age 8
thomas-age 5
mary-age 3
jane-10 months

i hope someone will follow up on the censuses for you, i will continue to search.

hi angie,

registration for scotland did not come in until 1855, so you have to go on parish records, maybe you will find them on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

so many guests are viewing right now, it is wonderful to see a new face requesting help, i also started with 1 post!!!!!

in the meantime, i have tried to track down the family, to help anyone who can look the family up in later censuses, lets hope your james made it past 1855.

I can confirm that the OPR for Alexander and Janet's marriage is at Scotland's People as is that fir James and Mary Beattie.

These are all the children born to James and Mary up to 1854. Again these records (all OPR) are on Scotland's People for you to view.

You should note that to view at Scotland's People you have to buy credits to view. Each record viewed costs 5 credits and you have to buy a minimum of 30 credits (£6) to access.


What I would do is take each of the children in turn and look for a marriage and death before we tackle the census.

I found one for James Jnr on a quick look when looking for James senior

These are also possible marriuages for James & Mary's children - to confirm you will need to view on Scotland's People. As pre 18855 the parents names are unlikely to be recorded on the OPRs

However you can confirm if right ones by getting death certs which will have parents names if they died after 1855.

A quick look at post 1855 also lists possible marriages that related to this family.

You must now I think invest in some crdits at Scotland's People to check them out.

Don't use census on there tho. Come back in and post because on Sxcptland's People they cost 5 credits (except for 1881 which is 1) and we have other means lof looking at them for free.
