Welcome to Rootschat Loveland.......Nice to see you :D

John's marriage certificate will hopefully give you his father's name:

From Free BMD

Marriage March Quarter 1869

Fanny Allison, and on the same page, John Sotherton
District: Wolverhampton
Volume: 6b, Page 624

Using these details you can request a copy of the certificate from the General Register Office.

Have you found John in any of the earlier census with his parents?

As far as the marriage for William and Anne is concerned you will need to view the parish registers (or ask for a look up).  Shropshire parish registers can be seen on microfilm at the Shropshire Archives. and they will also respond to requests via email or telephone.  However, they will do a 10 minute look up for free, otherwise there will be a charge.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately there are a lot of John and Fanny Sothertons so I am not sure from the census who his parents are.

The marriage certificate will tell you his father's name, and the witnesses names may be useful too.
