Can anyone read what this says ,please..
« on: Friday 06 July 07 06:55 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Can anyone help me out with this please?
It's taken from the 1891 Census and it's the last word i am struggling with-to me it looks like "Andalusian"but it appears in the last column which is normally saved for "impediments".
As far as i know the person in question was born in Macclesfield so i am just wondering if the enumerator mis-heard and if so what else it may be??
Thanks in anticipation!

I live in Andalucia, and its not a language, it is a dialect, we drop the 's' so if your name is Oscar for example, you would be called Ocar, and most greetings are cut very short. It is also frowned upon by people from other provinces, a bit like cockney (I am a Cockney!), its thought to be common

Thanks Indaloman- sorry to sound thick but i still don't understand why it has been put in the end column though!
I thought that it was just reserved for "deaf and dumb"etc-what do you think??

perhaps it was just a notation by the enumerator showing that the person was Spanish

It is true it is a dialect but if he/she considered himself Andalucian/Andalusian rather than Spanish then that is what he/she would have said he/she was.  Dont forget that they were proud of their ancestry then just as the Basquesow want to be separate.
