Hello Newfy,

Thank you very much again for all your searching.
I think William snr being a gardener may be a red herring, as the same source  says his wife is Hannah.

William jnr was definitely a gardener, and collected and described plants for at least one notable NZ botanist, Leonard Cockayne. He worked at several of the government gardens around NZ - we now call them botannical gardens.

Finding the family in the different census also confirmed the childrens' names being handed down.

I will now start seriously searching at my end for his arrival in New Zealand.

Thank you for all the work you do for all Rootschatters.

Jean

Having been Googling this afternoon I came across your references to William Willcox. He is (or was) my Grandfather so I can confirm his birth and family. William first wife died in 1906 and he remarried to Frances Reid from Ireland - my Grandmother. My Father - Hilton - the eldest of 3 from the marriage was brought up first in Queenstown and later in Rotorua. When I was in NZ 2 years ago we visited Queenstown and on the memorial gate there are 2 Willcoxes - Clarence who fell and Arthur who servrd in France. Also the Queenstown school records show 3 willcox boys from 1907 from the first marriage to Emily Cox and later my father, Uncle and Aunt.

I have quite a few details of Williams parents and earlier. However I have no information when he went NZ to the time he married again in 1907.

I hope this is helpful but if there is anything else I can help with I shall be pleased to do so.

Kind regards

Ian Willcox

Hello Ian,

I am very pleased to meet you.

Am sending you a PM with my email address so that we can connect directly.

I am aware of William Willcox's second family but have not done any research there as it is Emily Cox and her family  that I am researching.

Regards
Jean
