Kirktown - which one?
« on: Wednesday 11 July 07 01:02 BST (UK) »
I have a Jane (or Jean) Blake who was born in 1819 in Kirktown, Scotland, she was the daughter of Walter Blake and Isobel Scott and she married Edward Nesbit of Northumberland in Kelso in 1837.
Isobel Scott was of Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.
Jane and all her siblings (Margaret, Isobel/Isabel, Joseph, George) were born in Kirktown but there are so many in the atlas that I am quite stymied - I am in New Zealand.
If anyone can tell me which Kirktown this would be I would be very happy.
In fact if anyone can add to this history of Jane, I would also be thrilled

Hi KW

If you check the IGI
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

you will find an extracted record for the baptism of Jean, giving the location as Kirktown Roxburgh

If you wanted to check for any further detail on the baptism record, you can check if this is available at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (pay to view)

Checking Genuki
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/ROX/Kirkton/index.html

gives some information on Kirktown

Trish,
Many thanks for your reply, I had looked at the atlas and could not decide so this has sorted it for me.
Thanks.
