Birth records Timothy McNulty b. around 1827
« on: Wednesday 11 July 07 18:15 BST (UK) »
Looking for Timothy McNulty born around 1827 according to US census of 1860.
Came to this country 1854 according to a Luzerne county PA. history of 1893 where they settled. The history stated that he and his wife Mary O'Malley (Malia...history gives both maiden names) were natives of County Mayo.
Their children's names may give clues to family ties (often named after parents or siblings):
all born in the US
John b. 1857
Bridget b. 1860
James b. 1864
Margaret b. 1868
Timothy b. 1870
Sarah b. 1873

I can give information up to present on Timothy's line for anyone interested. And can put one in contact with descendent's of Bridget (who married an Armstrong).

On a recent trip to Ireland stopped in the Ballinrobe Genealogy center. They checked and could not find a marriage record for Timothy McNulty and Mary O'Malley...not sure if she checked Mary Malia. Also have not found ships records listing either one in 1854.
ANY information would be greatly appreciated.
And we really enjoyed our trip to Mayo, Donegal, and Offaly despite 12 days of rain!

Hello mapleglen,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.
