Hello, bit late with this..... you may already have visited Eaton. Eaton is a small village near Headon, Redford.
St Andrews Church, Eaton, has a small graveyard, many graves are unmarked. Many years ago I wrote to the then Vicar, who kindly searched the church burial records, they hold most of the records for persons buried in this graveyard.
I have visited this village in my own family research.
Some of my Hilton family lived, and died there in the 1800s.
Good luck...Mick

The easiest route to Eaton is via the A1 to Markham Moor roundabout leaving at the exit marked Retford . Eaton is on the left  if you get to Retford you have gone too far. Dont try to find it through Headon.

hi all,
just to let you know my brother,my wife and i visited Eaton today.it was a super small village.
we went in the church without much hope of finding anything as lots of stones were unreadable, but in one corner our holy grail; our thomas bowskill died 1798 aged 69.we did,nt find anything else, and the church was shut, i dont think it is used anymore, and there was no information about keys to have a look inside.we had a good look round and went to river.sadly no pub in Eaton so we drove and ended up at the boat inn at hayton, had a cracking pint and a wonderfull meal ,great friendly staff superb.all in all a great trip.are eaton parish registers online anywhere or are they available to buy as i would dearly love to find out if possible thomas,s family and where they came from, best regards all jim

Hi Jim

I am very interested in this post as my Husbands Mothers name was Bouskill and I am doing his tree as well as my own. I have not got any of the names that have been mentioned on here but I know his Bouskills started in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. What I have is

Samuel Bowskill c1777 Woodhouse Nottinghamshire, Married to Elizabeth ? c1783 Mansfield Nottinghamshire

Their children

John Bowskill c1818 Nottinghamshire
Samuel Bowskill c1820 Derbyshire
Pheobe Bowskill c1823 Whitwell Derbyshire
Maria Bowskill c1828 Derbyshire

John married Hannah Hill? c1811 Hayton Nottinghamshire, not sure where they married.

Their children

Jack Bouskill c1846 Caler Green Nottinghamshire
George Bouskill 1848 Redford Nottinghamshire
Charles Bouskill c1850 Redford
Betsy Bouskill 1853 Baxton Moor Derbyshire

Notice the change in name, I have found it can be spelt either way.

I know that Jack moved to Barnsley South Yorkshire but don't know about rest yet. Jack was my husbands Gt Grandfather.

Be interesting if we find a connection.

hi christine,
its odd about john bowskill and the hayton connection as i was in hayton yesterday having a meal, and it was,nt until i got back here in beds that i found that bowskills were there.i have come across bowskills spelt in various ways :boughskill /  bousgill /bouskill/ boskill / boskell /and boscall so do try all when searching.i think the variations came by; when the census enumerator asked for surname the often miss heard the word through local accents etc,and as the majority working class had limited reading writing skills.i have nt as yet found a link with mansfield retford bowskills but there must be one as they are so close.best regards jim

I don't think there is a connection, all of mine are from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire. As far as I know none moved to London.
