Where is this Chapel in Flint?
« on: Thursday 12 July 07 16:55 BST (UK) »
The IGI records the birth and christening of Mary Ellis in 1835, father Samuel Ellis, mother Charlotte Holland.

The place is recorded as "The Old or John Wynnes Chapel Presbyterian or Indenewmark, Newmarket, Flint, Wales"

Not unsurprisingly when the place is 'googled' there is a negative response.

Can anyone help me with the place of Mary's birth?

The www.genuki.org.uk website will help you. Click on Wales, then Flintshire, the list of towns and parishes is shown. Go to Newmarket or Trelawnyd.

Hi Megran

Thanks for the lead which I will study in more detail.

In my tree I have a Thomas Ellis born c.1840.  My first trace is 1881 which records him born in Hawarden, in 1891 records show Saltney and he died before 1901.  Now a possible record in 1841 living in Llanasa with his parents Samuel and Charlotte.

I just wonder if Hawarden, Saltney and now Llanasa are geographically near enough to each other to be claimed as the 'same'  place of birth?

Hi Gerry

In 1851 HO 107/2506/298/15 at Jones's Square, Talar, Denbighshire (quite near to the birthplaces shown below)

Samuel Ellis 54 Ag Lab b. Cwm, Flintshire
Charlotte "                   b. Llanasa, Flintshire
Thomas    "                   b.     "

Hawarden and Saltney are about four miles apart but Llanasa is about 16 miles from Hawarden and 20 from Saltney.

Many thanks for explaining the layout and I can see that Hawarden and Saltney, as a birth of place,  could easily overlap, Llanasa less so.    I'm going to draw a line under this thread and start afresh with what I know about Thomas Eliis and what I'm trying to find.    I just wonder if this is one of those brick walls we all hit :-\

Much appreciate all your help and interest :)

Hi Gerry

Before you give up on this do you mind posting what information you are certain about to see if the family can be traced back. I am having difficulty reconciling the Saltney and Hawarden Thomas Ellis's with each other.

Hello Peter

Thanks for your support.   I don't intend to give up but we all have a family member down a cul de sac.    I will shortly post a new thread about Thomas Ellis showing what I know is factual and what I am trying to find.

I've only just seen this thread, but nobody seems to have posted that Newmarket is the now disused English name for the village of Trelawnyd near Dyserth. It may have more than one chapel, but not many.
