Hi see what you mean about the scan.

Looks like "Transported for House (breaking?)

and I am sure I can pick out the word Stafford.
There is a William Archer bap 1811 and another 1813 in Staffs. But I may be way off the mark with what I can read into it.
I would ask if someone can look up the records in Launceston cause if we can get a name it will be so much easier. Post a request on the Aus board. Someone may be able to take a look for us.

I will wait to see what happens. The Bussorah later took fee paying Brits out to Australia and on a run prior to 1830 (in1828) arrived carrying smallpox. Cannot find that link again ??? Must be doing something wrong.

Babajack, where was William tried for his crimes?  If you can work that out from his paperwork (it will most likely be an Assizes or a Quarter Sessions) then you may get some more info about him from the trial records - if you are VERY lucky it will give you something about his birthplace, home or parentage, but that's not been my experience unfortunately  :(

P.S.  Have put a link from your other thread back to this thread, to avoid duplication of responses etc.  Here's a link back to your other thread:

Can you scan the top right and bottom right bits only, so we can read the rest of the text that's there?

   Hi Babajack.....

Yep look to me as though it reads....

Transported for HOUSE BREAKING.  Good report--- ----- ------
Health Report -------- with the cane for destroying his case?

The bit here is faint...but further along is the name Archer and is it Beckwith Stafford? I cannot see a place called Beckwith in Staffs.

Prue is better at reading text so I will wait and see how she reads it...me I am probably over due at the opticians ;D

Catch you later ...two small people to entertain today. Weather here cannot make it's mind up!

Hi ....Just back for another look..

It says Locksmith of Stafford. Not Beckwith Stafford....told you my eye sight was going down hill.....parish records in latin to blame..

So he must of been convicted in Salop in March as I can see that date.

If we can find his marriage cert in Aus, it will help  or even a death cert..
