1861 Census Lookup Request - TIMS
« on: Tuesday 17 July 07 12:55 BST (UK) »
Hi,
can someone find this family for me?
Joseph TIMS-age 63-Labourer-born Ridgemont
MaryAnn-age 62-wife-born Crawley ,Beds
Thomas-son-age 29-labourer-born Woburn
John-son-age 28-labourer-born Woburn
Joseph-son-age 23-Blacksmith-born Woburn
Elizabeth-daughter-Age 18-born Woburn

In 1851 they lived at Back Farm,Woburn .However I'ld be suprised if they are still there as Joseph the elder and his sons Thomas and John were convicted of stealing a few potatoes from the Duke of Bedford. So I suspect they are "persona non gratis".However they might suprise me and still be there.

I'm sorry maybe I have this wrong, I thought it seemed strange that you don't have the two sons in your family.

I can find the family I gave in the 1851 census at Park Farm Woburn, names spelt Timms, coincidentally they have the same names as yours but with the addition of William and Henry.

Hi Mary
Yes thats them.Sometimes the surname is spelt TIMMS,It certainly is in my branch of the tree.Joseph is from a branch a bit further out on my TIMMS line. However Joseph spelt his surname TIMS in the 1851 census so I kept it.Sorry if it caused confusion.I didn't know about William and Henry.Someone else transcribed the 1851 census for me  and I know there was one son age 8 they couldn't read.Could  you transcribe me the 1851 census as it looks like the've made a mistake with it and I didn't get the full info before?
Many thanks

James gone into hiding in 1851, although looking at this family in 1861 I wouldn't have thought that Elizabeth would be their child, maybe there's another older son to Joseph and Mary Ann

Hi Mary,
many thanks.
Having looked on the 1881 census it looks as if they all "escaped" to the Brighton and Hove area and started a new life.I've found William's family and Henry is with his uncle Charles Turney back in Bedfordshire(so perhaps William's mothers maiden name was Turney).John is in Hove with 2 daughters stating he is still married but with no wife living with him.As yet I can't find Joseph the Blacksmith.
