PS.

Quote
which i think ties into another family of a James & Susannah Livermore in Rochford whom i have found in 1841, 51 & 61, but have no proof of this.

The lady in question is 25+ in 1841, so not old enough to be your James mother .... however, James snr is 40+, so could be a second marriage ....

Not sure now if PRs for Benfleet will help .....

Thanks Newfy,
I had found the IGI entry for James & Eliza which did match the certifcate, but i have had no luck contact the person who submitted it.
I will have a look at the others, i agree that its possible that Wm Js may well have been known as James, but i would not have expected him to use both variations on offical documents. I would have expected him to have been fairly consitant (which wn jas does appear to have been on those parish records and the census's).

sadly, its not just our ancestors who can be (in)consistant, its the vicars, enumerators and registry office wallahs you have to watch for....

I agree theres no proof as there might be if the Marriage Cert had said Wm James ..... but when you add Wickham (Brook) as seen as his PoB on the 1851, and the christening and marriages in Wickham with virtually identical names and ages to the two 1841 findings, it does lean towards the conclusion that they are all linked.....

I could quote you a few dozen stories from my findings on this site in the last year that illustrate what a tangled web can be woven   ;)

Good luck with it all, Kind Regards, N  :)

Thanks Newfy for all the hard work  :)

I will certainly look into those records in more detail, as you say there are so many opertunities for the names to be miss-heard. What i would do for nice simple people  ;D

Hi Newfy,
I think i have found a connection that proves you are correct on William James  ;D . Looking at the 1841 census, he is living next door to an Ambrose Ellis, who just happens to match the brother of ELiza Ellis who married James Livermore. I had not yet been looking to Ambrose on the census, some had not found this entry before.

Thanks for your hard work in finding him.

Good tactic ! I meant to see where Eliza was in 1841, but forgot.

Its always of great interest how people travelled for work in those days - wonder why that area of Essex was any better than the Maldon area for work prospects - perhaps they knew someon .... that certainly brought my lot down from Lincs to Cambs/Norfolk to help drain the Fens !

Pleased for you ...  :)
