Hi

I am trying to take this one step at a time. First starting with who Mrs Robbins was... we know she is the elder sister of Grace French who married John Folland. Also going on info you have Grace French and Mrs Robbin's parents were John French and Sarah ?.

this is what I have found on IGI , extracted info....
All these are children of John French and Sarah:

John French chr. 5 june 1775 Ottery St Mary, Devon
Mary French chr 16 Jan 1882    "
Richard French chr. 8 Nov 1777 "

Grace is the only submitted record and just states that she was b c 1789 , Devon !

Mary is the eldest daughter (b c 1882) ...but I cannot find a marriage for her to a 'Robbins'.  :-\

A John French married a Sarah Bond 16 June 1774. Ottery st Mary (IGI extracted)
Cannot find any other marriages to a Sarah , also none in Barnstaple.

will search further

Deb,
I had a look at those on the IGI.

Grace was born circa 1780 died about 1842, and married 1810.  She is said to be youngest.

Ltd. Charles Robbins is said to be born circa 1780/1782.......so his mother would have been born circa 1860.

The small family tree I have has John French married to Sarah in brackets it has (c1750 - 22.4.1839 - Died at Vicarage Lan Bradford.  Burial 183  ,  St. Peters C. of E. Ba (assume Barnstaple) George Johnstone off (officiating) ).   The printing is chopped off at edge of page.

On the bottom of the tree it had Grace French -  Youngest daughter of John French.  born c.1780/ - 2.4.1842. Buried St. Peter's C. of E. Barnstaple.

So the Ottery births don't seem to be this family.

It also says on the tree that Mrs Robbins is buried at Tawstock Church Yard. but does not have a date.

Eager Bega.

I'm that lady in Canada! - I have been in contact with "the old lady's" son to see what I could find out and he hasn't replied to my email, I understand he has all the family history records.

I also found out the "8" was crossed out and changed to a 3 on one of the original family charts.  However we are correct to assume that Grace was the youngest of the family and the older sister . . . our unknown married to ROBBINS was quite a bit older than Grace.

The search goes on . . .

Be nice Maureen if the son would come forth with what info he has.   Lets hope he contacts you.    Maybe he has changed his email.......and a phone call might get him, if he listed in Australian phone directory.

regards Mary

ps........sent reply to your private email this morning........cheers

I don't want to complicate things but this is the way I am thinking about this family at the moment
John m Grace FRENCH was bap 1779 son of unmarried Susannah FOLLAND
Susannah was bapt 1 Mar 1754 dau of John and Deborah REED

Most researchers have concluded this John to be son of Thomas & Cathrine nee POCOCK bap 1702 Dolton but he had a cousin also John bap in 1706/07 Dolton son of Simon & Ann MARKES
I have sifted through the data sent by Maureen 52 and on Bernice010 's web site and Think the situation is as follows:
John 1702 s of Thomas /Catherine
m1 Margaret FORD and m2 Deborah REED
Margaret FORD 1703-1739 m 3 Jan 1731
M Deborah 28  Oct 1742
He was 28 marrying Margaret and 40 marrying Deborah
John 1702 is nearest in age to Margaret

John could not marry Joan as second wife as John  & Joan  had a child bapt before Margaret died

So John 1706/07 m Joan ? about 1738 m not found ch bapt Dolton 1738-1755  He would have been about 32

Please let e know what you think of this. :) Its been niggling for quite a time now  :-\
