Marriage banns
« on: Thursday 19 July 07 09:41 BST (UK) »
How would I find out if the banns for a marriage which took place in Medbourne Leics in 1795 are available, & where would they be held? Is it poss to find this info online or would I have to visit the Leics records office?
Would be glad of some help with this

From 1754 to 1812 a separate banns register had to be kept by each church and if the register still exists it should be in the local register office where Mike has offered to look for you.  Do you know that they both came from Medbourne or is there another parish for one of them which will give second chance of finding a banns register?

Which was a Stately House ( Nevil Holt )
Summer home of the Marquise of Exeter
which had it's own Chapel
Where several events took place.

Hello David
I think John Elliott was b in Willoughby on the Wolds, Notts, near the border with Leics. I don't know if Jemima came from Medbourne. I'm partic interested to know where they came from, & if they had been prev married, as John was b c 1763 I think.
I'll see if Mike comes up with anything, & then check Willoughby

Thanks

Thanks Mike
I doubt that my 4 x gtgrandparents would have been married in the Chapel you mention, as they were of the Romany Gypsy race. Interesting though. I hadn't known that about the Marquise of Exeter

Mike

Thanks so much for getting this info for me - saved a great deal of time & effort on my part.

From a settlement cert in 1815 John Elliott claims Willoughby Notts as his birthplace, so I'm not sure how this fits in. I haven't found his birth yet, waiting to check Wlloughby for this. I'll check the witnesses as well - otherwise I may have to retrace my notes & see how certain I am of Jemima's surname.
Thanks for all your help
