attn Steve Sims lookup 1823 Pigots please
« on: Friday 20 July 07 05:51 BST (UK) »
Hello Steve,
I read your kind offer to look up entries in trade directories and wonder if you could look up a family business in the 1823 Reading Pigot's please

The family name is Williams and they were coach proprietors.  It is likely they lived & or worked in Castle St. Reading
Key christian names are Thomas, Samuel and William

with many thanks

Hi there KN
thank you very much for doing this.
I had previously looked at these directories but had not found the 1823 Pigots for Reading.  On another site I found an index to this with the names I was searching for but no actual entries.  Steve advertised that he could look up full entries in this directory.
I tried the page number you gave me but unfortunately it did not open correctly.  Was it the 1823 Pigots?  as I still cannot find it listed as one of the directories listed on that site.  If it was could you please  tell me the page number  and I'll try browsing to find it

many thanks

Alison

Sorry that the link didn't work.

The directory that I attempted to link to is an 1848 directory of Berkshire.  If you use the search facility with a combination of words like 'Williams Reading' or 'Williams coach' you will find a number of references to the Williams coach company and the routes that it served.

Look on page 56 specifically and you will find Williams Samuel, coach & job master, 7 Middle Row.

I am sure that there will be other references to the company in other directories - you just have to search them out!
