1861 Census look up – HENDERSON

I am new to RootsChat and I was just wondering if s.k.s could do a look up for me. I’m trying to find Agnes HENDERSON (maiden name NIVEN) in the 1861 census. She was born 1835/37 in Johnstone or Abbey.

She will most likely be with her husband James HENDERSON b.1829 and three children;
James b. 1855 Kilwinning, AYR
Helen  b.1857 Abbey (Paisley), RFW
Betsy b. 1859 Abbey (Paisley), RFW

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi 411,

I had a look on ancestry for James and Agnes  no luck .
There was a family tree owned by Marion Fielding e-mail addie was * which had
Agnes Niven b.7/12/1837 Johnstone , married James Henderson 27/5/1853 and died 22/9/1911 in Colarado USA.
You maybe know this person ,if not she may offer you some more leads .

There is a submitted record on IGI for a James Peter Henderson marrying Agnes Nevin ( not Niven)
27 May 1853   Kilwinning, Ayr, Scotland . This means it has been submitted by a member and extracted from an actual record, so treat with caution. It also states Agnes was born  around 1833 Raeburn, Kilwinning, Ayrshire.

Not sure about Annie's birth, but the first James died before 6yo and another child named James. The Peter John Henderson was submitted by a member but dates are precise so they maybe correct.

However could this be your family?

Annie Genderson 7 b 1854 Kilwinning Ayrshire
Peter Henderson 5 b 1856 Kilwinning Ayrshire
Betsy Henderson 1 b 1860 Paisley Renfreshire

I think this is the same family, but why Thomas instead of James. I do not know yet.

Thanks Tom for the the information. Sorry my reply has taken so long.

I did have the information from the IGI, but I didn't have what you gave me on the census. I think it's a very strong possiblity that it's the family I have been hunting for. I didn't have a name for their first child, so this gives me another lead to pursue.

Hi Gene,

You can alays download the birth certificate of James Henderson born in 1855, this was the year that official registration started in Scotland, and it gives bonus information for that year only. It will definitely give parents and where they were married, their ages etc.
