Hi Carole and Red
Thanks for your replies.
My Grandfather married my Grandmother 8th Feb 1919. He stated on the marriage certificate that his father name was Christopher Ryan occupation Laborer.
My father was only 10 years old when his father died, leaving his wife with seven children in 1932.
Life was hard for my grandmother for many years. She did re marry later on.
My father never spoke about his dad it seamed it was taboo no one in the family even spoke about him.
I started out tracing the family and eventually discovered that my Grand father died of TB.
It was only when my Dad passed away that i also discovered that my Grandfather was living with a couple named Catherine and Christopher Robinson when he married my grandmother. I heard that my father and brothers/sisters called this lady Grand Ma Robo . I thought strange all these years i was looking for a Christopher Ryan and hear was a Christopher Robinson . Any way i sent for Catherine and Christophers Marriage Certificate and discovered that Catherine's maiden name was Ryan and her father was a William Ryan occupation Baker . This opened up a new avenue .
So as i mentioned recently my Grandfathers birth is a mystry
Thanks

Hi Keith

I can't find either Catherine or William on the 1901 census.  Something is puzzling me about Williams birthyear of approx 1898

When he married in 1919 - how old was he on the marriage cert?

You mentioned in an earlier reply that Catherine sent William to America and that he returned in 1914 and joined up.  That would make him about 16 years old.  Have you traced his service records as that may show his parents names whereas his marriage cert only shows (fathers?) name

I notice that Catherine and Christopher only married in 1909 so Catherine would have been around 31 at that time - does that age tie up with her marriage cert?

Hi Carole and Red
My Grandfather was 21 years old when he married my grand mother Grace Holme.
In April 1919. He joined the 8th Irish Liverpool Kings 1916 .
Catherine Ryan was 29 when she married Christopher Robinson in 1909.

Thanks

Hello, I know this is an old post. I am a descendant of Minnie Ryan, daughter of William and Annie. Minnie emigrated to New Zealand with her husband John Warwood. John was born in New Zealand, but was working in London when he met Minnie where they married in 1904. They left for NZ not long after, she died in 1948. She is my great grandmother. They went on to have 8 children in Dunedin, Otago here in NZ, my grandfather Raoul Warwood being one of them. I am related to her through my father.

Welcome to rootschat Kate. I’m afraid that Keith hasn’t been logged in to Rootschat for over 10 years.  :-\

If he is still around and has the same email address he should be notified of your reply.

Good luck.

I took the liberty of sending Keith a Personal Message alerting him to your reply.

Yes, it is exciting to discover someone else with mutual ancestors. It happened to me (again) only a few days ago.  :)
