I am also looking for Shaws in Kilsyth but, it seems, not the Shaw line being searched above.

I am looking for information on James Shaw b. 1819 d. 18 Dec 1884 (age 65) and his wife, Eliza Boyd b. 1821 d. 1889 (age 68).  Both are buried in the Kilsyth Old Churchyard (entry #408 - not sure if that is the lair # or not).

I would like to know where they were born and when they were married and if they had any children.  I couldn't find any further information stated on a search of Kilsyth Old Churchyard records.

Hi omap/MJ,

James Shaw's death certificate is available from Scotland's People ( www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk )

SP is a 'pay per view' site where you have to purchase credits to view/download BMD certs/Census Returns etc.

On the DC, the information you are likely to get is: Full name, marital status and to whom married, exact date and time of death, age, occupation, parents names + father's occupation and cause of death.

There is only 1 James Shaw who died in Kilsyth in 1884 (age 65), so it must be him! I didn't have enough credits to have a look at it for you.

Once you get this, then do the same for Eliza, you'll have both sets of parents names and hopefully will then be able to track them on Census Returns

(Kilsyth is listed under Stirlingshire.)

Anne

Thanks Anne....not able to buy credits at Scotland's people at the moment so maybe I will run across someone with information on these people.  They might show up on pre1855 index somewhere.

James Shaw born 6th April 1819 in Kilsyth. He died on 16th Dec 1884 in Kilsyth. His occupation was a cotton weaver. I have him down as marrying a Ann Boyd on 5th Sept 1839 in Kilsyth.
Ann Boyd born 1818 in Glasgow and she died on 29th Jan 1889 in Kilsyth.
Her parents were Robert Boyd and I can't quite make out his wife's name except it was Ann also.
The Shaws are part of my tree too.

Wilton:

Sorry...answered your PM before reading your previous posting...and mistook you for a different poster!!   Your Shaw/Boyd doesn't look like it connects to my Boyd family unless your Ann's parents are John Boyd and Janet  Livingstone.   I do have a 9 year gap between John & Janet's oldest child, Margaret b. 1811 Kilsyth and the second child I have for them is Wilson b 1820 Kilsyth which could put your Ann in there but I don't have any information on Ann to tie in.   For now at any rate!  ;D

Hello John,

just to let you know that you need to post three messages before you can begin to use the Personal Message system on here. You can then use that facility. But you cannot give out your e-mail address unless you do so by personal message.

Welcome aboard to Rootschat John. I'm sure you will find lots to look through on here.

yours
