Just further to that, one of the girl's deaths gives her father as William Patrick - this may or may not be right.  There is this birth at "Sand'" which would be Sandridge which was Port Melbourne I think.  Anyway it is the registration place, not necessarily the birthplace.   If they were Irish, this would account for the discepancy in ages of William. No pun intended there, from experience my lot were shocking with their ages.

William Patrick HOGAN, birth reg 1860, Sand, reg no:10417
father: William
mother: Mary MALONE

other two...

1854 at "Sand"  William Long Hogan, father Thomas, mother Margaret Long reg 1789

1854 at Melb - William Thomas Hogan, father William, mother Bridget Hunt.
reg 6287

then no more reg at Melbourne until 1869

William hogan death I was given this date by his grand son many years ago. His grand son was Leo Fredrick Hogan his mother was Daisey Harding from England. Leo served in the British royal navy. world war 2. Leo was born  29th/4/1923 in the districk of Wangaratta
Victoria parade.
William Hogan his father stayed in england and when his wife died he remarried. William was the son of William James Hogan born 28th Jan 1893 at Numurkah he won the DCM for his actions in the 1 world war.
I know have the birth of William son of William James Hogan it states William James was married 24th nov 1892numurkah  age 36yrs the it states 1 female living 1male DEC. Doe's this mean he was married before?I have the birth cert of one of there children Selina born cobram it states he was married 25th Nov 1890 Jerildere, also that he is 35yrs born Richmond. Well now according to  the victoria death  index's Leila's parents names were Daniel and Selina.

I have had a look at the NSW on line BDM's and found three births with the parents names of Daniel and Selina
they were

Donald born 1854
Emma born 1852
Helena born 1873 at Deniliquin  which is approx 100klms from Jerilderie.

So could Helena and Leila/Leialia be the same person?

Could not find a marriage for her in NSW under either name.

Can you please tell us  what William Hogan did for a living ?

regards Jenn

This bit
Quote
it states 1 female living 1male DEC.

means children born before William - previous issue
one daughter still alive, one son deceased
later birth certificates actually record the names and ages.

Hi Christine R.  many thanks for that I did wounder about it
Does being a Roman catholic mean that the records for any marriage
would still be with a church. and that I might never find it?

Kind regards
