1871 census chesk
« on: Saturday 21 July 07 18:23 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please confirm the following transcription for part of

Class: RG10; Piece: 739; Folio: 67; Page: 59;

Name             Parent        Birth       Birthplace                         Relation      Civil Parish               County
                 or spouse     Year
Alfred Lewis                   abt 1827     Middlesex, England                Head          Camberwell St Giles     Surrey
Alice Lewis      Alfred        abt 1864     Middlesex, England                Dau           Camberwell St Giles     Surrey
Annie Lewis      Alfred        abt 1867     Middlesex, England                Dau           Camberwell St Giles     Surrey
Mary Ann Lewis   Alfred        abt 1848     Southwark, Surrey, England        Wife          Camberwell St Giles     Surrey
Emily Louis                    abt 1806     H??Ard, Surrey, England           Lodger        Camberwell St Giles     Surrey

The image on Ancestry.co.uk is poor and their transcription obviously contains errors. The first 3 women are actually classified as sons!

Can anyone point me to any other images?

Where was Emily born and what was her occupation?

Can anyone read the addresses?

Thanks.

Ayling and Tilley in London

Thomas and White in Middlesex (pre 1840)
Patton, Finlay, Shaw and Dunbar in Ballymena area

she's not enumerated with that household as you show it .... which is schedule # 294

she's on schedule 295 (a) - next door

I'd say her PoB was Horsleydown - a Parish in Southwark (google for more info)

I'd hazard a guess she's a Needle Woman

Dreadful Image !

Try saving it and then inverting it to white on black ....  :)

Thanks Newfy. That confirms what I thought might be the case.

Although Emily is living next door, having the same name (well almost) and being about the right age, I'm wondering if she's Alfred's mother or aunt. Of course I'll need much more confirmation than this!

Ah well, now to try and find Alfred and Mary Ann in the 1851 and 1861 census records.
I think I've found him, but I'm not at all sure that Alfred was b 1827 / aged 44 as transcribed, I believe he was b 1842 and aged 29.
More research required.
