Looking for living descendants of my Ancestors.......
« on: Sunday 22 July 07 17:15 BST (UK) »
....which Board do I post it up on ?

Do I go to the County Boards ?

Please advise, as I have 4 'notices' I would like to place. It's a bit of a long-shot, but I'm keen to see if anyone is descended from brothers and sisters of half my Great Grandparents. The other half, I'll do another time.

Thanks very much indeed.

Simon

Hi

The county boards would be best.

Please do not mention the names of living relatives in your posts, best to stick to ancestors names only and ask for replies by Personal Message system.

Good Luck

Many thanks indeed.

All my Great Grandparents and their siblings are all long dead.

I'm just curious to see if any descendants are about...............I have no idea on what their names might be !!  ;D

Once again thanks, I'm off to post on the county boards. Good point on the PM idea.

Hi Simon,

It's probably also worth posting on the SIT (Surname Interests Table), the link is at the bottom of each Rootschat page.  If anyone else is researching, they may see your entry.

Also try a search on GenesReunited - if you are not a member, post a request here on the common room and someone will do a search for you (ask for replies by PM).

Thanks Jean for those points.

I'll take a look at the SIT thing.

And yes, I'm all signed up for GR...............I've already found a 3rd cousin from these 4 sections just posted. Her G Grandfather was a brother to my G Grandmother - we have exchanged lots of info and also 'push' each other on.

I have now posted up my requests on the County Boards - and asked for PM's.

Thanks

Simon

You are doing something that I have long been trying to achieve. Best bet is to get your area of interest on as many boards as possible. The ancestry surname boards are very US-centric, but if your relatives are on that side of the pond, it might bear some fruit. Be prepared for somebody Googling your  name in years to come, so make it possible for people to find you. That means don't change e-mail addresses

Good luck

Thanks for that. Yes, Ancestry is something else where I can post up my request...............as you say, it's possible it'll take a few years. No problems on that.

Hi Simon,

I have had a bit of luck with Genealogy.com. They have English County boards too.

Worth a try.

I'll try that site as well - the more the better.

Are there any other sites I could try ? (if that's not breaking the rules here !?!)

I have now posted up here in Hampshire, Kent and London.

Once again thanks to all so far - much appreciated. It would be great to get a link from someone, somewhere !
