I am attempting to give someone some advice on a Message Board.Whist the answer may appear obvious;Am I correct in saying the Place of Birth is always given on a Birth Certificate?

In England and Wales, post 1 July 1837, the place of birth is recorded on the birth certificate.  However, it may not always be helpful: it may just say the name of the town or village rather than a specific address.

In Scotland, post 1 January 1855, the place of birth is given on the certificate.  Again, the smaller the location or earlier the date, the less specific the 'address' might be.

Prior to these dates, there were no such things as cerificates.  Baptism registers may give the address of the parents, but that does not mean that the child was born at that address.

Hope that helps.  :)
