Bamford Toll House
« on: Wednesday 25 July 07 11:29 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help in my search for the whereabouts of the Toll house in Bamford on the 1851 Census.
My ancestor John Archer was listed as the Toll Keeper then and his address was "Mytham Bridge" township of Bamford.
I would love to know if it is still standing so that I may visit.
Archer  surname kirkburton Yorkshire & Brampton Derbyshire 1800-present
Bottomley surname (Possibly Quakers) shepley Yorkshire
Doyle surname 1800-1900 Kerry Ireland..Fleming Surname 1830-1900 Kerry Ireland

Many thanks for your help. I can now go & look at the site. I have found out that the original bridge was swept away in a Flood on the  7th Aug. 1853 & rebuilt in 1857.
My ancestor was a Toll Keeper on the 1851 Census &  on a later Census was listed as living at Bradwell as an Innkeeper in the "White Hart Inn".

Do you have any reference to the house that the Toll Keeper would have lived in at the time?
