Toronto Ontario FHC of the LDS?
« on: Thursday 26 July 07 03:45 BST (UK) »
Has anyone out there used the centre in Toronto. I see that it's by appointment only. I was wondering if it was really busy and that's why?

I'm a little freaked out that I have to make an appointment. What if I asked for the wrong records and I waste their time and mine :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Hi Mary Ann,

I've been there a couple of times and they were very helpful. I think the reason that it's "by appointment only" is that they have limited manpower.

Do you receive their weekly bulletin? If not, you can email them and ask to be put on their mailing list at :-

The volunteers are really great - and they have a collection of reels of microfilm that you normally would have to order....

The appointment is more to book the microfilm reader - as they don;t want to have too many people there- but I have never had a problem booking an appt.....

Thank you both for the encouraging replies.

I have finally decided that it's the only way I'm going to get anywhere with my Irish ancestors. My head hurts from all the bumps on the brick walls ;D

If you are any where near Toronto, do go. I was stuck with my Irish lot but with their help, I got back two generations.

Thanks JC,

I read on another post that some of the bigger centres have the films for Ireland in house. Would the T.O. site be one of them?

Yes, they do. The chap there even helped me find my Gt Grandparents marriage (1875) and 2 Gt grandparents marriage (1846).
He was much faster than I am on the reader and gave me all the info I needed to get their certs.

As you know, the Irish records have great gaps in them but if you go armed with dates and places I'm sure, if the record exists, they will help you.
