Thanks Gadget.  Did a search on Rob Donn or should I say Rob Donn Mackay, or Rob Down or Rob Calder???????????  I did not know of all the names he is supposed to be!!!

Can you tell me what a Sawyer is?

Mackay/Mackenzie - I thought all the children were born in Durness?

Thanks again for your help and interest.
Sincerely
Maggie

I've found  what I think is William's baptism, Kilmuir Easter :

11 June 1791 William Mckay, parents Alexander Mckay and Ann Matheson

Also same parents

21 Feb 1786 Christian
25 April 1788 Isabel

We cross posted  -  They lived in Cromarty which is on the Black Isle in Ross and Cromarty. Durness is in the North of Sutherland, see:

http://www.scotlandsfamily.com/parish-map-caithness.htm

a Sawyer is a man who cuts timber - 'one who saws'

I think your family  story might be a little doubtful  :-\

Marriage of Alexander McKay and Ann Matheson:
Kilmuir Easter, 24 Feb 1785

and a possible baptism for Alexander:
30 April 1756  parents Alexander McKay and Jannet Ross

I've not yet located a possible baptism for Ann Matheson

Hi Gadget,

Cannot find any further information on Alexander McKay and Jannet Ross or Ann Matheson?

Have you had any luck yet?

Thank you

Maggie :-*

Sorry Maggie

I was waiting for you to come back. I haven't looked any further. If they're not on the IGI (full film records) then it will be difficult to locate.

Have you had a thorough look on this or Scotland's People?

The Parish Records for Kilmuir Easter are (from GROS listings) :

Births 1738-1854
Marriages 1815-1854

So Alexander McKay and Janet Ross are unlikely to have been included. There is an outside possibility of Monumental Inscription or possibly Kirk Sessions Records (held Edinburgh).

Sorry but it will be difficult to get any further without maybe someone 'on the ground'.
