Hi Trapper

I think the dreaded double Christophers have emerged again. I've just checked my original copies of the 1851 and this is them the same as quoted by Reiver from his source book:

Holle Village, K F

District 837 ED 2 Page 12

Christopher, 34, joiner or carpenter
Ann,27
Jane, 4
Jannet, 3
John, 11 months

All born Kirkpatrick Fleming

It looks as if young Margaret b. 43/44 must have died and the one that I found on in the previous message  was the daughter of the other Christopher.

There's no sign of a Margaret with your family, Trapper.

Here they are in 1871. (I think I mentioned the 1881 earlier)

Holle, K F

District 837/2 ED 4 Page 1

Christopher, 54, joiner
Ann,47
Mary 11,
Robert, 9

I'll check up further on the Margaret*

*The one aged 1 in 1851 is the daughter of a Christopher and Helen. I think the Christopher that Nell found was married to a Jane - lots of Christophers  ::) ::) ::)

The baptism of Margaret, b. 1843, K F,  the daughter of Christopher Irving and Ann Johnstone is on the Sotland's People site but she  is not on any censuses with them.  I would think that she might have died. If you have her marriage details to ? Ferguson, what parents' names are given? This can be obtained from the Scotland's People site if you don't have it.

 I have a Christopher Irving b 1817 KF d. 1891
Ann Johnstone b. about 1824

Children: Margaret (Illegitimate) b.1843
Jane b. 1835
Jannet b. 1848
etc  So I would imagine they are the same family, this was given to my by someone researching Jannet Irving

The info that I gave you above is from the Parish record. You can examine it in full onthe Scotland People's site for 6 units (£1.20).

I repeat: there is no mention of Margaret with her parents 1851-1881 nor, from Reiver's account,  with Ann's parents. I also searched for her separately and she doesn't appear at all. To confirm that the Margaret  who married the Ferguson was their daughter, you will have to examine the marriage certificate.

I know it's tempting to take what other researchers might have found but it is best to check everything, including the information that we have all provided on this thread.

Regards
