Help!
« on: Sunday 29 July 07 00:28 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to locate the birth entry for my great grandfather; info as follows;

B: 05/08/1895 (based year of birth on death in 1968 aged 72 1 week prior to birthday) Paddington N; Arthur Duggan - but I can find no birth entry for him anywhere. I can find him on the census for 1901 living in London; 16 Rackman Street with his parents Charles and Alice Duggan.

I have tried also searching under his mothers name Parsons as his parents didn't marry until 7/12/1898 Kensington - but that is no use either.

I have found his marriage entry as Duggan in Jan/Feb/Mar 1922 to my Great Nan Ruby Adelaide Collins. Their children are also Duggan.

He died Arthur Duggan 28 July 1968 (strange the same day as I searched for it - eg., 20 mins ago!)

I also know that my great grandfather fought in WW1 (very possibly with the Royal Artilery) but I can find no pension record of him on Ancestry.

I am at a total loss of what to do next or where to look. My nan does not know of any family secret or any changes of name, etc., so she can't help me but is obviously curious too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi Kez

Do you have Charles and Alice's marriage certificate?  Is it possible that Alice was a widow when she married Charles and that her first husband was Arthur's father.  And therefore his birth name would have been the first husband's name?

Just a thought

All ended up Ardwick, Manchester

I do have a copy of  the cert and Alice was a spinster at the time of marriage - they were down as living at 16 Rackman Street as well - which is where they are in 1901.

Also as far as all of us know Arthur had no middle name - all I have is a military picture I posted on here some time ago which has no badges or anything - just military buttons - but I can't see them well enough to try and identify them.

The medal card will merely give you information such as the battles he fought in and their dates.

About 40% of all First World War soldiers records were lost in a bombing raid in the Second World War.

Have you found his younger sister Edith A.'s birth registration?
If so what surname and registration district was her birth registered in?

Regards

Valda

Hmmm, Can't see that it could be him. Everything I have and that my Nan knows, is that he would have been born 05/08/1895.
