I think the town is Mexboro (Mexborough) - see where he enlisted at the bottom of the sheet

Possibly Swinton Road?

map here

Hi.

I'd agree with Arranroots,  I live in Mexborough, and it is frequently shortened to Mexboro' or Mexbro' in all sorts of documents.

A small proportion of Swinton Road still exists today, but no longer has any residential properties.  On the map shown by Arranroots, the large triangle above Swinton Road is now occupied by a Somerfield supermarket and it's car park and about half a dozen small commercial properties.

I actually remember these buildings being built.  Previously the old buildings were demolished and I remember the space being used as a large car park, with the rubble from the buildings making up the surface of the car park.  I'm a little to young  ;) to remember before this, but my parents will, they met at the dance hall on Swinton Road!!

Sorry to ramble on but your thread brought up some old memories!

Thankyou both Arranroots + Sally.

I'm such a dope, never realised there were more images,

on other page Swinton Rd is quite clear followed by what

looks like Naylon Rotherham.

What was even more interesting, was that Bertram married

his cousin! I dismissed this, when I found a marriage for

him on FreeBMD, + have been thinking he wed the other

lady that was listed.
