Marriage Mystery
« on: Sunday 29 July 07 13:25 BST (UK) »
I am having problems finding the marriage of my g g g grandmother Sarah FRANCIS. (born c 1810 Dawley Green, Shropshire) to John LLLOYD born c 1808 Ansley, Warks.

On the 41 census they are living in Darwin Street, Birmingham with their 3 children, Ann, Rosannah and Elizabeth.

Shropshire Archives have confirmed to me that their eldest daughter - Ann was christened at All Saints Church, Wellington on 3rd April 18333 - parents John and Sarah (Johns occupation Carpenter) and living in Lawley.

Another mystery is that Ann was baptised twice - once as above and then again 18th May 1837 at St Martins, Birmingham (at the same time as a younger sister).

I have a copy of Rosannahs birth certificate which confirms Sarah's maiden name of FRANCIS.

Neither myself (nor Shropshire Archives) can find a marriage between Sarah Francis and John Lloyd.

I even wondered if maybe they weren't married before they moved to Birmingham and have tried looking for a marriage after Anns birth in other areas but cannot find anything.

Has anyone any suggestions please.

It quite possible Fay that they never legally married, even though on the birth certifcate it says "formerly " Francis.

I have one like this myself  ::) tried everything I can think of but no luck.
