jui this may seem a daft question but how would the name have been pronounced....would the f have been silent?

There is a Henry Alford, living in East Street, Bedminster in 1841, aged 11 (just out but not too far), son presumably of Thomas (a sawyer) and Sarah (a schoolmistress)

Thankyou  old Bristolian.. but Henrys parents were Robert and Hannah.. i know he wasent with them because they are on the census without him..

and Sue.. alford is pronounced .. AL  ford... tis hurting my head this one ..lol..

Thanks jui, I asked because I`d been looking at a Henry Hallard and wondered if the pronunciation of the surname was the reason for not being able to pinpoint him accurately.  It`s hurting my head too!!  :-\  ;D

HiA .. me again..
      i have just looked at Henrys marriage certificate.. it just says of age.. and lived in .. what looks like Herman street.. dont know if this info useful in our search of the 1841 census.. also he married Mary Jane Lewis who also lived in herman street bedminster.. her father was lewis lewis..thankyou .. again..jui..xx

         The only thing i can think of is that george son of Hannah and Robert .. 1841 census was infact Henry.. what do You think.. do you think itis possible his middle name was put down .. please..

also can i be a real pain.. and ask you to look up lewis lewis.. (says born 1816 ..although i think he was born earlier.. if he is marys dad..))  living in bedminster somerset .. 1841 census.. thankyou..
