Stuck with the Audley family, Kingston, Surrey COMPLETED
« on: Monday 30 July 07 12:57 BST (UK) »
I have an Emma Audley marrying an Alfred Rogers 8.4.1846 in the Church of Ham, Surrey. Alfred was aged 31, Emma was 21. Their address is helpfully given as "Ham". Alfreds father was John Rogers, a tailor, deceased. Emma's father is William Audley, a land surveyor.

In 1841 the census for The Plough Inn, Kingston, Surrey shows:
Thomas Wales 30 b Surrey Occ Victualler
Frances Wales 25
Thomas wales 5
Edwin wales 4
John wales 2
Emma Audley 15 All born in Surrey
Martin Goodson 30 NBIC/Tailor
Alfred Rogers 25 NBIC /Tailor

The 1851 census, when Alfred and Emma are married shows Alfred as being born in Fulham, Middx, and Emma born in Kingston, surrey.

The 1861 and 1871 census show the same birthplaces.

Can anyone help me trace Emma Audleys family from the little information I have?

I wondered if the Wales family were related to Emma, what does anyone think? Any help on this would be appreciated :)

Hi Beverley

This is only a possibility but perhaps you might be able to follow it up.

There is a baptism for an Emma Audley in St Sepulchre, London 25 Feb 1816, parents William & Jane Audley.

There is a marriage of a William Wade Audley of Holborn St Andrew to Jane Turtill 1 Sept 1807 in Southwark Christchurch.  The marriage was by licence.

Alfred & Emma Rogers(Nee Audley) are my gggrand parents.Came across your enquiry after Googling Alfred Rogers.
This is not the same Emma baptised 25.2.1816 as the Emma married to Alfred was not born until 1825 and married on 8.4.1846 aged 21. She could be of the same Audley family though as her father is named William - a much younger sister to the other Emma perhaps ???

Thanks for your message, and thoughts about Emma Audley. I must admit I haven't got any further with this family at all, and remain as baffled as I was in 2007!
Perhaps going through my notes again may inspire me!
