Ancestry BMDs - no longer free?
« on: Monday 30 July 07 15:31 BST (UK) »
Sorry if I'm a bit behind the times here - I haven't tried to use them for a while, but it seems as if you now have to pay to see the previously free BMDs on Ancestry.

Am I right (or am I doing something wrong?).

If I'm right, anyone know why (apart from filthy lucre, of course!)?

Jill

Thanks for confirming that for me, Tati. I thought I was going la la!

Just when I was onto a good lead as well.

Oh well, I suppose in this world of big business and - as I said - filthy lucre, it's just amazing that they were free to view for as long as they were!!

Hi jillruss
This reply is re your enquiry about Ann Clarke, sorry I couldn't find your original query.
I have found three Ann Clarkes on the 1841 for East Yorks.

Ann Clarke aged 68 (1773) Pauper B Yorks
Robert Clarke     39             Ag Lab   B Yorks (could be her son)
Living Woodhall Harthill with Woodhall Yorks

on same page

George Clarke aged 39  Ag Lab
Martha    "                40
Living Kiveton, Harthill with Woodhall Yorks

Ann Clarke      aged 74     B Yorks
Elizabeth                  48       "
Living Bridge House Brightside Sheffield

Ann Clarke  aged 65 (1776)  B Yorks
Living Old Maids Hospital Bootham   Yorks

Hope this helps, if you need anything else please ask

Hi Pam,

Thanks for looking those up for me.

Unfortunately, they're all in the wrong parts of Yorkshire so it looks as if my Ann probably popped her clogs before 1841.

Hello again
You dismissed my earlier 1841 Census results as being in the wrong part of Yorkshire.  Well I looked Ann' s place of birth North Newbald it is a parish of Hartill so matches with Ann aged 68.

Haven't ever used Find my Past so have no credits.  If you have census reference for Beverley Union etc will have another look.

Hi Pam,

I certainly didn't mean to give you the impression that I'd dismissed your kind suggestions out of hand.

I looked on the map for all the areas you gave me - though I never did find Bootham. I think it must be an area of York.

Perhaps I'm missing something here. Is there another North Newbald or Harthill? I have them about 50 miles apart. North Newbald is in East Yorkshire, near Beverley and Hull, whereas Harthill is in South Yorkshire.

Have I missed something?

Anyway, thanks very much for your help. It really is much appreciated.

Jill

Hi Jill

The Harthill that Pam mentions is an area (Hundred) or in Yorkshire they are called Wapentakes. It covers the Beverly area.

As Pam correctly states North Newbald is a township in this district.

As opposed to the Harthill township which is in South Yorkshire.

This link may explain better than me.
