Did this used to happen?
« on: Tuesday 31 July 07 10:44 BST (UK) »
My mum was going through her stuff trying to trace siblings of ancestors.  We came across an incorrect one, but there were two babies (both children of the parents), one aged 12 days and one aged 5 days.  Was this normal in the event of twins for the mother to hold on for so long?!

I wouldn't have thought it was normal to have a week between twins especially not without up to date medical care  :-\

It was on a census, but I forget which one.  I think their names were Henry and Margaret Wilkinson, who were recorded as son and daughter.

More likely to be an error in their ages on the part of the enumerator..

Agree with Jebber. The one who was written first was probably the older of the two as well. I'd check other censuses and BMDs.

I wonder if it should read years instead of days?

Can you get the birth certificates to check? A week sounds a bit long but a few days difference might be possible.
