Birth lookup please - CARR 1839 - Kyloe? Hume?

Hi

I'm looking for details about Charles Carr born c1839. I can't find anything in the 1841 or 1851 census. In later entries he was living in Co Durham and his birthplace is stated only as 'Scotland'.

In the 1891 census the birthplace is stated as 'Callu Hume'. On ancestry.co.uk this is transcribed as 'Caller Thune'. His wife Mary Ann Westmorland was from Berwick so with a big pinch of salt i'm guessing that 'Callu Hume' is a transcription error on the original census record and it should (might possibly) say 'Kyloe Hume'.

Any help or advice on this puzzle would be greatly appreciated.

The fact that at least three different census enumerators recorded his birth place as Scotland, points to the probability that he was actually born in Scotland. ( unless he himself got it wrong.)

And Kyloe is well into England !

A village called Hume, which lay in a Parish of the same name, within the Scottish county of Berwickshire, is maybe a candidate for his b/place.
