Ancestry doesn't acknowledge that page number, and I can't find an Abigail that matches yours in 1851. . .

Is that ref correct?

Mike.

It's Agagail Johnson (who is an almswoman rather than housewoman) and it refers to her occupation.
I think it says 'spins hemp/lamps' although someone else could probably make more sense of the second word.

Hi Patrish!

Relatively new to all this, however, from looking, I think it actually says 'Almswoman' ie. receiver of 'Alms' which was a religion - based charity donation.

Therefore reads : 'Almswoman, parish relief receiver, also ....

Can't quite make out the rest yet!  :)

Regards,

Paul

ps. Correction : Abagail not Abigail

Found it, now everyone else has . . .  ::)

I think it says "Almswoman, Parish Relief receiver, also spins hemp(e)"

It does look lik :)e spins is the first word still don't know about the second  :-\

Thanks for all your efforts, much appreciated

It probably is hemp, but looking at the letters separately on the last word - it looks to start with an L and end with the fs (being ss). I can't think of a suitable word  ???

Also I found the listing at the following reference  Piece 1705 Folio 360 Page 34  - did I look at the wrong person  ???

If you look further down the page there is a Thomas 'do' which is written like TLomas.

"...for it is only the poorest people who spin hemp."
