CAUL family
« Reply #9 on: Friday 03 August 07 08:41 BST (UK) »
yes you were correct ;)  The writing is very "flowery" - CAUL does look like CAME -  so I can understand why the transcription wasn't accurate.  This is what I made of it:

1871 Cenus recs.
Dwelling: Stare Row
Census Place: Mearns, Renfrewshire
Michael CAUL, head, marr., 41, Mill Tenter, Ireland.

Thanks for that  8)  - the main benefit of ancestry is that you can search by given names only and family relationships, so sometimes a badly transcribed surname can be found. I was a bit bothered about 8 year old James - until I noticed she was listed as a daughter  :)

Pleased that we found them both

Hi Dave

Well put together - also well planned that most of the births are on the IGI. Always think it's sad that the LDS are not interested in the death/burial records.

You can probably bring them forward on SP (sadly that costs). It seems that some of the boys may not have survived - unless they had enough money to send them away to school - would this be possible?

I've had no joy in Ireland - but do you have Agnes and family on the early census? or should I be looking for them

I was looking at Renfrewshire because one branch of my family came from there (Paisley). They left Scotland in 1833, however, & called their home in Australia Renfrew Park.

Many thanks for the information.  My main interesting is in Patrick McKENNA - my wife's gg grandfather.  Up until a few months ago I had little information about his parents or family.  I'm still not 100% sure about when and where he died.  I noticed that on his marriage certificate was recorded a Felix McKENNA  so I tried to track him down.  Then I was sent the 1841 Census which seem to open up other possibilities.  It could well be, however, that all this information about Agnes etc could completely unconnected with my Patrick but at the moment that's all I've got.  ;D
