Oh Nashua!!  I interpret this as follows (from my own experience and that of others who have tried to sort out this specific problem):  they have not properly read either your initial or your follow-up post and so do not understand the problem.  Even if they read your emails extremely carefully indeed, they probably have no experience with the IGI and so still will not understand the problem.  I suppose you could persevere - but only if you enjoy hitting your head against a brickwall.

Gosh, I hope I'm wrong    Wouldn't it be great if your poor old local FHC to whom they've passed the buck actually could help.  But I won't be holding my breath.

We will have to wait till Sept to see 

In the meantime the date & parents names given on the IGI has helped me narrow down the possible civil registration of the birth, so I have applied for a birth cert from the GRO. Without the date there were too may possibilities to take a guess.

Keeping fingers crossed I have now ordered the right one.
