Hello Sue, found this on Cheshire B.M.D. Marriage of Samuel Lomas and Nellie Cullen. Dukinfield, St Mark. 1904. Ref, CE23/3/437.
I'll be in Chester tomorrow I'll try and get you the marriage details.

On the 1881 census there is a Samuel Lomas age 6 born, Dukinfield with his parents John and Lucy and siblings living at 23, Pickford Lane. Dukinfield.

On Cheshire B.M.D. John Lomas married Lucy Walker in 1867.

Thanks for your posting Paul- I think I got my generations mixed up in my searches -- so sorry!!
I think I was looking for father and son the wrong way round or was just totally mixed up!
Will see if I can rectify the situation.

heywood (head hanging in shame)  :(

my goodness- I am a beaten woman!

I couldn't immediately spot Samuel in 1891 and 1901 but found John and Lucy in Staleybridge in 1891- where coincidentally Ellen Cullen, b Gorton 1884 was living. As I said earlier, and I should have stopped there- a certificate will be the way forward and hopefully Paul will be able to help.

best wishes
heywood  ::)

Hello Sue, Hello heywood.
Forget my post for Samuel on the 1881 census parents John and Lucy, It's not him.
heywoods post for Nellie on the 1901 I think is her.

Marriage. Dukinfield, St Mark. Oct 29 1904.
Samuel Lomas. 22. Bachelor. Occ, Fire beater? Abode, 36 Furnace St. Father, William. Occ, Engineer.
Nellie Cullen. 22. Spinster. 15 Sykes St. Father, Charles. Occ, Gardener.
Witnesses. Austin Wood and Lilian Wood(X)
(X)=Did not sign made mark.
On the register it had Nellie with a line through it and Ellen underneath.
and the same where she signed her name Nellie with a line through it and Ellen underneath.

You could do with some kind person having a look for Samuel on the 1891 and 1901. Father, William(Engineer) Sorry I don't have Ancestry

Paul.
