I am trying to establish why Sarah Sandland would mary James Walker in Birmingham in 1845.

Could someone please check whether the family headed by Charles b. 1785 or Elizabeth B. 1790 had moved from Lichfield to Birmingham by 1951 Census.

Lived in Wade St. Lichfield in 1841 as per previous posting.

No, they're still in Lichfield ...

1851
HO107/2014 408 17
Lichfield St Mary
Wade Street

Charles Sandland, head, 68, Smith & Farrier?, b. Lichfield
Elizabeth, wife, 75, b. do.
Charles Calles?, nephew, 17, b. do.

You said their first son was born 1844. Where was he born? Did you find his birth? Was he registered as Walker or Sandland?

James Walker and Sarah Sandland had 9 children, 1st 1844. I only have Birth Cert of Abel b. 1862.

I believe I got ages from 1861 Census, in Burntwood, Staffs. (abt 4 miles from Lichfield)

I see (1851 census) that all the children were born in Staffordshire indeed  :-\

FreeBMD isn't complete for 1843 & 1844 ... might be worth doing a search of the full index.

Edit: searched 1843 & 1844 and couldn't see another Sandland/Walker marriage  :(

Tati, Many thanks for your perseverance. I think I will have to obtain Marriage Cert to check ages and parents

Thanks

Hello Donez,

I am currently researching all the blacksmiths in Lichfield and their location in the City and I was extremely pleased to find this thread. It is an unusual surname and there was William Sandland in Beacon Street at the same time.
Do you have any other information about Charles or his son and the trade.

thanks

John

I am new to this Rootschat setup. I note that you have come across Sandland blacksmiths in Lichfield. I go back to a John Sandland who is to be found in the Gregory census of 1695 of Lichfield who was also a blacksmith. What dates are your Sandland blacksmiths?

Norman

Hi WidnesSandy

My Sandland was Charles Sandland, married to Elizabeth, born Lichfield. Aged 55 in 1841 census. Occupation Blacksmith.

I am intrigued that you get back o 1695 with Sandland blacksmiths in Lichfield. Any information welcome.

Sorry for delay, but I have had a year or two break!

Hi

I see this old thread has reopened. I've got a lot further with my Sandlands since my earlier post. They were all from Wem, Shropshire (Lichfied diocese) to late 16 century. I've just started looking again and have found a few wills.

A link that might be of interest ~ I think one of mine is mentioned:
