Mike you must be proud of him for standing up for what he believed in.
I wish I had asked my grandfather's about there experiences in the war, one was in Italy and Africa, the other served in Burma.

My mum's grandad lost his arm in WW1, we went to the spot on the Somme where he was shot in both arms, he was back in England within 4 days, and he had to have his left arm amputation.
I have his pensions records etc.
Her other grandfather lost an arm too, but in the print, at work.

My dad has hundreds of letter his parents wrote to each other during WW2, they are lovely to read and full of love.
Unfortunately his grandmother destroyed all her letters from WW1, which is a terrible shame.
