Hi folks,
A query? The Montgomery's of Inverness migrated to Melbourne in 1898 on what?
Help required if possible. Did they have migration in 1898 or would they have been transported?
Cheers,
EC

Hi EarlsCourt
Do you have any more information on them - their names, ages, occupation and where they went in Australia.
It would help.
Regards

Hiya Gadgit,
WOW!! How speedy was that?
Their name was Montgomery and I have an inkling they went in 1889. I don't know how they got there though?
They went to Melbourne.
Cheers

How do you know they went to Melbourne? What were their names, etc. Have you tried the Emmigrants to Australia board?
I'm not too good on emmigration records at all. All mine stayed here or went to Canada/USA. I'll try and help if you could give some names, please

Just been on the phone and the only details given are Clive and Agnes Montgomery. Believed to have been born in Inverness-shire, around the 1870's.
Departed for Melbourne circa 1898
This should help you make a start.

Hello EarlsCourt
I'm not sure if you have looked at the size of Invernessshire. It's pretty big - extending right across the lower part of the North of Scotland and includes Skye and some of the southern Outer Islands. here's a map:

Do you have any idea where they came from?

I've checked the 1881 census and can't find either a Clive or Agnes b 1865-1875 in Invernessshire. Are you sure it was Invernessshire?
